Thankful for good friends

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of The J.M. Smucker Company. The opinions and text are all mine. I’m partnering with Folgers® at Walmart through the Share A Cup & A Story campaign to create personal connections within my community.

Don’t you love it when you can find wonderful people in your own community to connect with?! When we started our adoption process with Libby I remember feeling so alone, I didn’t know many people who had adopted and the whole process was so foreign to me and everyone else I knew. One of the first people I connected with was a woman in our community named Sarah. Sarah and her husband had recently adopted and she said she would be happy to chat with me about their process. I was nervous because I didn’t know Sarah well at the time, but I couldn’t wait to talk with someone local who had been through the adoption process.

Sarah was amazing, she opened up so much about their adoption, about their feelings, about all the different steps, about the good things, the hard things, and everything in between. I remember feeling so much better after our conversation and so thankful to have someone in my community to connect with about adoption. Sarah was there for us through so much in those first few months when we were figuring things out, always happy to make a suggestion, give us some info or just share some encouraging words. It was so amazing to have someone to talk to who knew what I was going through and understood my feelings and was happy to just listen and be a friend.

Fast forward several years and Sarah has become a dear friend. She has chatted with me many times about my adoptions, her adoptions, and about things that we can do to encourage others in their adoptions. Sarah has been there for lots of other families during their adoption journeys and is always happy to help where she can. For years Sarah baked Christmas cookie platters with her friends and family to sell to raise funds for others in the community adopting, such a beautiful way to spread love and cheer around the holidays! Her eagerness to give back to her community and to support and share love with so many has really touched my heart and inspired me.

I know I could never thank Sarah enough for all that she has done for me, but I did want to at least tell her in person how much her time and friendship has meant to me and to so many others, so I invited her over to chat and say, ‘Thank you.’ We enjoyed a cup of Folgers Classic Roast coffee together and chatted and laughed about all we have come through over the years. We also talked about things we both want to do to continue spreading joy, love, and information about adoption to our community and beyond. Adoption is something that can be so hard to find information on and can be such a scary and lonely place to be, especially when you are just getting started. We have dreams to build an online community to share more about other’s adoption stories to encourage those in the adoption process, and to be a friend to those who feel lonely. Sarah has inspired me so much and now I want to go on to do the same for others!
