Transform a Bookcase into a Magical Dollhouse!

Libby with her dollhouse
Searching for the perfect dollhouse

There are a very few moments sweeter than the first time a young girl plays make-believe with her dollhouse. Ever since Libby was a baby, I have been searching for the perfect dollhouse. I finally decided that her first dollhouse would be a bookshelf dollhouse. When she’s older, we will build a traditional dollhouse together.

I found the perfect bookcase dollhouse

I searched and searched for the perfect bookshelf dollhouse and last fall I found it! When I came upon this beauty at the Beautiful Bed Company I freaked out!! It was the best feeling to find exactly what I had pictured, down to every detail. I loved the details found throughout: the fence, the birdhouse, you could even choose which colors you wanted! I immediately fell in love and purchased the bookcase dollhouse for Libby’s sixth birthday. It was the perfect gift for her and we have been having so much fun setting it up, playing with it, and filling it with tiny treasures!! I will be sharing another post on where to find all the goodies we put inside soon, but first I would love to share a little bit about the Beautiful Bed Company.

Beautiful Bed Company, Owner Lisa Faulkner Q&A:

How long have you been creating for?

I have always been creating for as long as I can remember. I started to photograph babies and children when I was 12. I designed and sewed my own clothes when I was a teenager. I always loved making patchwork bedspreads. I always felt myself to be a painter, but am still exploring this medium.

What’s your favorite sweet treat?

Chocolate, chocolate, and more chocolate.

What’s your favorite product to design/create and why?

In terms of furniture, I love a challenge. A designer will come to us with a problem to solve; and we design a piece that suits the purpose. Adding in custom paint color and custom fabrics enables us to create a piece that is truly special. There is joy and magic in taking an idea to create a piece that is both useful and enjoyable, a piece that we hope brings happiness and comfort to our customers for many years.

What’s one tip you’d like to share with new creatives getting started about running a small business?

Running a business requires a lot of tenacity, long hours, and endless problem solving. You need to feel passionate about what you’re doing, and the joy of seeing a finished piece makes it all worthwhile.

What or who inspires you?

I find inspiration around me every day. I am lucky to live in a vibrant city such as Los Angeles. I love to visit art galleries and museums. I try to be present and open to new ideas. And I have a teenage daughter who keeps me up to date on contemporary culture.

What’s your best selling product?

Our specialty is making beds with turned bed posts. Some of our bestsellers are the Harriett, Gwendoline, and Lovely Louis beds.  We are proud to employ some of the most talented carpenters and to be able to train younger people in the traditional craft of furniture making.

What is one thing you like to do when you’re not working?

I like to watch a movie with my family where we all squeeze on one sofa along with our dog Bettie, snuggle under a blanket (I knitted), and share a bar of chocolate!

We loved chatting with Lisa, and we are so very happy to have her amazing bookcase dollhouse! Check out some other fun toy posts.

Pin this idea for later!
